Overview:

With the continuous growth of medical supplies within the hospital, traditional inventory management methods are inefficient, and the demand for in-hospital device interconnection and network stability is becoming increasingly urgent. To this end, we have partnered with a local medical IT system integrator in Thailand. By deploying the WR245 intelligent industrial router as the in-hospital IoT gateway, we achieve real-time connection, remote monitoring, and full-link visual management of medical equipment and smart medicine cabinets across various wards.

Challenge:

Traditional hospital inventory management typically relies on manual recording, which is not only prone to errors but also suffers from data lag.

There is a lack of information sharing among departments such as the pharmacy, warehouse, and laboratory, which can easily lead to critical stockouts or excess inventory expiring due to a lack of real-time responsiveness.

Data communication for medical supplies involves sensitive patient data, which requires secure transmission and storage.

Smart devices, software, and communication protocols for the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) require regular updates, leading to increased daily maintenance and service costs.

Solution:

The Wavetel WR245 industrial router connects to the main control board of the smart cabinet via an RJ45 port, while another RJ45 port connects to a switch, which links to multiple sub-components downstream.

Data aggregated by the WR245 from the switch is efficiently uploaded to the hospital IoT data center using industrial IoT protocols such as MQTT and HTTP.

The device integrates secure tunneling protocols like IPsec VPN and OpenVPN to provide end-to-end encryption protection for sensitive medical data in transit.

It adopts a dual SIM card slot design and supports cellular network failover, guaranteeing a continuous, stable, and uninterrupted network connection.

It supports remote configuration, status monitoring, and firmware upgrades for the router via RMS, enabling field-maintenance-free operations.
