5G RedCap is not a "stripped-down" version of 5G, but a precision-engineered standard designed for mid-rate industrial devices. Defined in 3GPP Release 17, it offers "just enough" performance—150 Mbps downlink and 10–20 ms latency—at a fraction of the cost of full 5G. As 4G reaches its limits and full 5G remains too expensive for massive scale, RedCap emerges as the economic and technical "sweet spot" for the next generation of industrial connectivity.
